Dordt’s “Brian Eekhoff Golf Facility” Plans Announced

Sioux Center, Iowa — Dordt University has announced fundraising efforts for the Brian Eekhoff Golf Facility to be housed in the Dordt Rec Center.

“The Brian Eekhoff Golf Facility will provide our golf teams with access to cutting-edge technology and a space to enhance their skills during the offseason. This facility will prove to be pivotal in bringing forward the Defender golf programs while granting an enriching and impactful experience for our student-athletes,” says Ross Douma, Dordt’s Director of Athletics.

The facility features two hitting bays with Flight Scope X3 Launch Monitors; a 20’ x 40’ putting green surface and a players’ lounge area.

“I look forward to this becoming our players’ second home on campus,” said Dordt women’s and men’s golf coach Jon Crane. “I envision our players coming together to work on their game during the winter months, studying in the lounge area, and building camaraderie. We are recruiting student-athletes who are a great fit for Dordt and they are asking what facilities we have that will accommodate working on their game November through March. Now we will have something for them.”

A goal of $100,000 has been set for construction with hopes of completing the project in November 2021. The facility is named after Brian Eekhoff, a 2008 Dordt graduate. Eekhoff studied business at Dordt while competing on the golf and basketball teams. After graduating, Brian and his wife Johanna, moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where he worked as an assistant golf professional at Villa De Paz Golf Course. After seven years in Arizona, Brian and Johanna moved to Montana, the couple’s home state, as the head golf professional at Cottonwood Hills Golf Course. Eekhoff held the position until he passed away in an auto accident in 2018.

“We are honored to be able to name the facility after Brian,” said Douma. “Brian had the ability to relate well to everyone he met and put them at ease. His and his family’s love of golf and Christian higher education made this an endeavor we wanted to pursue and do well.”
