Sioux City, Iowa — The Great Plains Athletic Conference and Hauff MId-America Sports have announced the Great Plains Athletic Conference baseball pitcher-of-the-week for games played March 21-27 and Dordt’s Gyeongju Kim (Junior; Seoul, South Korea) has earned the honor.
Kim had a record setting performance in a 3-1 win over Hastings on Saturday, March 26 when he pitched a complete game in the 11-inning contest and struck out 21 batters. Kim allowed no earned runs, walked one and surrendered three hits in his fourth win of the season. Kim’s 21 strikeouts broke the previous record of 15 that was established by Guy De Haan in 1972. He retired the last 10 batters he faced and the side in seven innings.
“It was a memorable performance by Kim. It is great to see him be recognized for it. This recognition is a by product of the work that he puts in on a daily basis to be excellent at his craft,” said Dordt baseball coach Nathan Bacon.
Kim is currently 4-2 this season and leads the conference in strikeouts and strikeouts per nine innings.
Dordt is 4-4 in GPAC play and will face Doane this Friday on the road and is scheduled to face Dakota Wesleyan at home on Saturday afternoon.
