Carson Elbers, a senior at Western Christian High School (Iowa), has announced his intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender track and field program.
“Carson is a very gifted athlete and we are grateful that he has decided to commit to Dordt and be a part of the track and field program. Carson has been a leader at Western Christian in multiple sports, and he will be an excellent addition to our long sprint group. We are looking forward to working with him to develop his abilities to their fullest, and to help him grow as a person,” said Dordt track and field coach Craig Heynen.
Elbers has been a part of a 2019 fifth-place state meet finishing 4×400 team and a state-qualifying 4×800 relay team. He’s run 200, 400 and 800 meter races and has been a part of a 4×400 relay team that clocked a 3:26.76 and a 4×800 team that has a best of 8:14. He claimed all-conference honors in the sprint medley, 4×400 and 4×800 in 2019 and also ran on a 4×400 team that qualified for the 2018 state meet.
“I chose Dordt because it felt like the right fit and will help me grow in my faith, academics and as an athlete,” said Elbers.
Elbers is the son of Carl and Melissa Elbers of Rock Valley, Iowa. He plans to study Finance at Dordt.
