Etherington Pitches No-Hitter; Leads Raiders To Sweep vs BCU

Orange City, Iowa — Kameryn Etherington pitched a no-hitter in game one while also picking up the win in game two in leading Northwestern to a doubleheader sweep against Briar Cliff Monday in a GPAC softball doubleheader played today in Orange City.

Northwestern has won three straight games and improved to 4-2 in the conference, 17-7 overall.

Etherington’s masterpiece in game one was the 13th no-hitter thrown in program history; the freshman’s teammate, Samantha Ubben, was the last to throw a no-hitter (vs Presentation in 2020). Etherington struck out a career-best 11, did not walk a batter and allowed only one BCU hitter to reach base off a Raider error.

Game One: 6-0 win

Northwestern scored the first run on a sacrifice fly by Jennifer Boeve, scoring Emily Bosch, in the bottom of the third. The Raiders plated two more in the fifth; singles by Bosch and Boeve combined with a BCU error led to the first run of the inning; another Chargers miscue on a ball hit by Etherington scored Boeve to give Northwestern a 3-0 lead. Jordyn Kramer and Megan Nichols hit back-to-back singles to start the sixth inning; Kramer later scored on a wild pitch. A two-run single, scoring Nichols and Madysn Grotewold, to complete the scoring in the sixth.

Northwestern totaled 10 hits, and Emily Bosch went 2-for-4 with two runs scored as the leadoff hitter. Jennifer Boeve continued to be one of the team’s top run producers, going 2-for-3 with 3 RBI, and six other Raiders had one hit each.

Briar Cliff’s Kayla Guerrero (1-3), one of three Chargers pitchers to throw, gave up four hits and one run in four innings.

In the bottom of the 3rd, Northwestern went ahead for good with a pair of runs. Bosch hit a one – out double, Mouw walked and both came around to score on a two-out single by Erika McKenney.
