Fessler Signs With Dordt Golf

Kate Fessler, a senior at Unity Christian High School, has announced her intention to attend Dordt College and join the Defender golf program.

Fessler has been a member of the Unity varsity golf program for four years and had a 50.8 nine-hole average in 2017 and a 98 18-hole average. She has a personal low of 46 on nine-holes in competition and 88 in 18-hole competition. She claimed second-team all-conference honors in 2016 and first-team honors in 2017. She was a medalist at the 2017 Regional Meet and she has 25 top-10 finishes in her career.

Fessler was part of a fifth-place finishing team at the 2015 state meet and a third-place finish at the 2016 state meet. She also was on the 2016 War Eagle Champions and the 2017 Regional Champs.

“Kate has had a great high school golf career at Unity Christian under the coaching of Cody Harskamp and Jon Holwerda. Her golf game has improved greatly since her sophomore year and her medalist finish at the 2017 sectional golf meet is a highlight for her. She was also a member of the Unity teams that qualified for state in 2015 and 2016, led by current Dordt player Alyssa Fedders. I’m sure she is anxious to compete in her final high school season this spring and we are thrilled to have Kate join the Defender golf program next fall. She will be an asset to every part of campus life given her academic talents and desire for serving others,” said Dordt College golf coach Mark Christians.

Kate is the daughter of Paul and Avonda Fessler of Sioux Center, Iowa. She plans to study Education at Dordt College.
