Friday Football Broadcast Preview For August 27th

It’s opening night Friday for most high school football teams across Iowa. Our broadcast doubleheader features Sheldon hosting Sioux Center on AM 1550 and 100.7 FM. On KIWA FM 105.3 another full season of Boyden Hull Rock Valley football begins with the Nighthawks hosting Central Lyon George Little Rock.

Two longtime district foes will meet in a non district opener as Sioux Center has made the move up to Class 3A this season with Sheldon remaining in 2A. In the preseason Radio Iowa Poll the Warriors have been ranked at #9.

For the Orabs there are two big keys  to the game. The first is playing clean.

Head Coach Tyler Lloyd. The second key with a young team is to have a short memory.

For Sioux Center Head Coach Tim Van Regenmorter it’s the Orabs skill position player that get his attention.

As for the keys to the game Van Regenmorter looks to ball control and special teams.

The coach Kory Roos joins LA for the coverage again this season on KIWA AM 1550 and FM 100.7.

It’s 3A against 2A at A.R. Hesla Field in Hull as the Nighthawks ranked #4 in the preseason 3A poll host Central Lyon George Little Rock the top ranked team in 2A. Both teams saw their 2020 season take them to the UNI Dome where the Nighthawks bowed out in the 3A semis while Lions played for the 2A title.

Nighthawks Head Coach Cory Brandt feels it will be a real measuring stick game.

The biggest key to a win will be matching the physicality of the Lions.

Lions Head Coach Curtis Eben feels line play will be especially important.

Eben talked about what he looks to get out of the opener.

Jon and Justin Hellinga bring you season long coverage of the Nighthawks on KIWA FM 105.3. Pregame  for both broadcasts begin from the game sites at 6:30 with kick off at 7:00. Both will be streamed at www.kiwaradio.com. The Orab game will be livestreamed on the KIWA Facebook page.
