Rock Rapids Iowa — Gable Sieperda, a senior distance runner from Central Lyon High School in Rock Rapids Iowa, has announced that he has accepted a scholarship offer and has committed to the Iowa State University Track and Field and Cross Country Program.
Sieperda has been a dominant figure in both track and field and cross country in the state the past 4 years. His most recent achievement was leading his team to a Class 2A State Cross Country Championship, along with winning an individual state championship and being the 2017 All Class Champion.
Throughout his four years in cross country he has been a 4 time state medalist finishing 6th on two occasions, 5th once and finished his cross country career as the State Champion. He has been a 3 time All-State Select Team member, 2017 All-State Elite Team member, 4 times being named Sioux City Journal Male Cross Country Runner of the Year, was a finalist for 2017 Des Moines Register Male Cross Country Athlete of the Year, and he owns a personal best time of 15:08.
Sieperda has been equally successful on the track, with two State Championships in the 3200 Meters and one State Championship in the 800 Meters. He is a seven time Iowa High School State Track Medalist, and he is the Iowa State 1A Meet record holder in the 3200 Meters with a time of 9:15. Gable was also the 2015 Junior Steeplechase National Champion.
Sieperda is a multi-sport athlete at Central Lyon, where he is a two time state place winner for the CL-G-LR Wrestling team . Gable also excels in the classroom with a GPA of 4.0 and is a member of the Central Lyon National Honor Society.
Gable will participate in both Track & Field and Cross Country for the Cyclones.
