Sheldon, Iowa — Sheldon Orabs hosted Sibley Ocheyedan Generals in a Siouxland Conference Basketball Double header at the O-Rena Friday night. The Generals won both contests, Girls winning 51-45 and boys 48-45.
In the Girls contest the Generals led 10-9 after the first quarter and pushed that advantage to 25-15 at intermission. The Orabs chipped away at he lead in the third when Brianna Wasmund and Abbie Bos each picked up there fourth fouls midway through the quarter. The Orabs still trailed after three, 34-29. The fourth quarter was back and forth, the Orabs pulled to within three but couldn’t get any closer and would fall 51-45.
Madison Brouwer led the way for the Generals with 16 points. The Orabs put two players in double figures led by Makenna Kleinhesselink with 11 and Peyton Lode with 10.
The Generals are 3-0 overall and in the conference, and the Orabs fall to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
In the boys contest the Orabs raced out to 8-0 advantage prompting a timeout by the Generals. At the end of one the Orabs hung on to a 9-7 advantage. The second quarter was back and forth and ended in a 20 all tie. In the third quarter the Generals were hot from beyond the arc dropping 4 three pointers led by Keagen Van Westen nailing three of them pushing the Generals to 38-30 lead at the end of the third. The Orabs battled back in the fourth but free throws down the stretch would seal the win for Sibley-Ocheyedan 48-45.
Carter Brouwer from the Generals led all scorers with 18 points followed 10 points form Keagen Van Westen. The Orabs had two players in double figures led by Shane Brouwer with 15 and Kaleb Ackerman with 14.
The Generals improve to 2-0 on the season and in the conference while the Orabs fall to 0-2 overall and in the conference.
Next up for the Orabs will be Saturday afternoon at home hosting South O’Brien with a 3:00 tip off for the girls game followed by the boys contest in non-conference action.
Sibley Ocheyedan will host Okoboji on Tuesday evening in a Siouxland conference double-header.
