Gilbert, Jones, Hendricks Take First at Dordt Open

Sioux Center, Iowa — Competing in their third meet of the indoor season, the Northwestern College men’s track and field team took won three events at the Dordt Open held Saturday in Sioux Center, Iowa.

For the second consecutive week, Dylan Hendricks claimed first place in a distance event, crossing the finish line first in the mile with a time of 4:28, just ahead of the second place runner, Brian Santiago (Mount Marty).

James Gilbert Jr. won the long jump once again, claiming first place in the event for the second time this season. Gilbert Jr, who has the top mark in the NAIA in the long jump, leaped 7.17m (23.06.25), over two feet past the second place athlete. Two of Gilbert’s teammates, Jacob Davies (3rd) and Dexter Wiese (4th) also placed in the top five with leaps of 6.37m (20-10.75) and 6.33m (20-09.25), respectively.

Lorenzo Jones recorded the first win of his collegiate career as the freshman won the triple jump with a leap of 13.63m / 44-08.75.

Several Northwestern athletes had multiple top five finishes, including Hendricks, Gilbert Jr., Wyatt Pryor, Mitch Oostra and Jacob Davies.
