GPAC Names Foltz And Mackrey Men’s Soccer Players Of The Week

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — After opening the season 2-0 down in Missouri last week, and knocking off RV Missouri Baptist, the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) named Ezekiel Foltz and Juan Mackrey have been named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Men’s Soccer Players of the Week.

The Raiders downed Hannibal-LaGrange (2-1) and RV Missouri Baptist (2-1) to open the season down in Missouri this past weekend in back-to-back days, starting the season 2-0 for the second straight season.

Offensive Player of the Week
Senior forward Juan Mackrey (Balcare, Argentina/Georgia Military College) is off to a hot start to begin the campaign for the Raiders, with both his shots on goal this weekend finding the back of the net. He tallied four shots in the two contests over the weekend and leads the team in both shot attempts and goals scored.

His 70th minute goal against the Spartans on Saturday tied the game and brought the momentum back to the Raiders, as they used that momentum to secure the game winning goal in the 85th minute to knock off Missouri Baptist.

Defensive Player of the Week
Goalkeeper Ezekiel Foltz (Sioux Center, Iowa/Sioux Center) was lights out in the net for Northwestern, playing a huge role in allowing the team to begin the season 2-0 for the second straight season. Foltz picked up the victory at goal in both matches, improving his career record to 13-6-1 with the Raiders.

In the Hannibal-LaGrange match he tallied four saves and only allowed one Trojan goal (55th minute), after Northwestern had built a 2-0 lead. He followed up the Hannibal-LaGrange match with two saves against the Spartans, while only allowing one goal early in the second half (47th minute).

The Raiders open up their home slate this weekend hosting the Pizza Ranch Classic welcoming Clarke University and William Penn University to Orange City and the NWC Soccer Complex. Kickoff against Clarke is set for Friday evening at 5:00 p.m. and hosting William Penn Saturday evening also at 5:00 p.m.
