GPAC Preseason Softball and Baseball Polls announced

Sioux City, Iowa – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) announced its preseason coaches’ polls for both softball and baseball Thursday, January 23rd.

In softball Northwestern College totaled 120 points and are the preseason coaches’ selection to win the 2025 GPAC Softball Championship.  The Red Raiders tallied 10 first place votes.

Midland was picked second with 110 points and one first place vote, while Dordt had the other first place vote and was third with 94 points. Morningside and Concordia rounded out the top five with 89 and 84 points respectively.

In 2024 Northwestern claimed the regular season championship. The Red Raiders went 19-3 in league play and 43-5 overall.  Northwestern also won the conference tournament title, defeating Midland 3-0 and 1-0 in the best of three series.

The GPAC Postseason Tournament will feature two four-team tournaments (Seeds 1,4,5,8 and Seeds 2,3,6,7) (double elimination) on April 30-May 1 at the sites of the top two seeds. Then the two tournament winners will play on Saturday, May 3, in the GPAC Championship (three game series) at the highest remaining seed.

Points were awarded on an 11-1 basis and coaches could not vote for their own team.

In baseball Concordia University totaled 98 points and is the preseason coaches’ selection to win the 2025 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Baseball Championship.  The Bulldogs garnered eight first place votes as the top selection.  The other three first place votes went to Doane University who was five points back in second place with 93 points. 

Morningside was tabbed to finish third with 79 points while Midland was picked fourth with 66. The Lancers from Mount Marty round out the top five with 54 points.

In 2024, Doane and Concordia were the regular season co-champions in the GPAC each with a league mark of 21-7. The Bulldogs won the GPAC Postseason Tournament by a score of 5-1 over Doane.
