Durham, North Carolina — Two Iowa teams leave Tuesday for an appearance in Saturday night’s NAIA football championship game in Durham, North Carolina.
Third ranked Grand View is in the title game for the first time since winning it in 2013.
That’s Viking coach Joe Woodley. It marks the first time teams from the same state have squared off in the championship game and Woodley says it speaks volumes to the quality of college football in the state.
Woodley says the trip will be an experience his players never forget.
Woodley says there won’t be quite as many activities for the players during the next four days due to COVID protocols.
Second ranked Morningside has won two of the last three national titles and this will be the Mustangs’ fourth appearance in the championship game.
That’s Morningside coach Steve Ryan who says it is two programs that build their programs around Iowa talent.
Ryan says there will be more down time for the plays this week leading up to the game.
Ryan says the players will be practicing and they will try to organize some activities to keep them busy.
