Harmsen Signs With Dordt

Caleb Harmsen, a senior at Western Christian High School, has announced his intention to attend Dordt College and join the Defender basketball program.

Harmsen, a 6-1 guard, averaged 9.0 points per game with 2.3 assists and 2.0 rebounds per game while converting 48 three-point baskets for the Western as the Wolfpack claimed a 2017 state title. As a sophomore he averaged 3.5 points per game and converted 71.5 percent of his three-point shots.

Harmsen earned all-conference honors as a junior and is a four-time letter winner in basketball and a three-time letter winner in football. He’s been a part of back to back state title winning basketball teams and a 2016 state title in football and a state runner-up finish in football in 2015.

“We are excited Caleb is joining our basketball family. He is a proven winner who understands the nuances of the game and is able to make his teammates better. Caleb has grown up in a gym and knows what it takes to get results,” said Dordt College coach Ross Douma. “The intangibles, along with his ability to shoot from the perimeter, will impact our program. Caleb is a young man of integrity and principle who will impact our campus community.”

Caleb is the son of Bill and Shawna Harmsen of Rock Rapids, Iowa. He plans to study pre-Physical Therapy at Dordt College.
