Iowa City, Iowa — Iowa offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz says the Hawkeyes are using the transfer portal to build depth and not build a roster.
The portal is getting bigger each year and Ferentz says it puts a premium on hanging on to players on the roster.
Ferentz says losing players to the portal has not been Iowa’s biggest issue.
Iowa has lost a large number of defensive linemen, tight ends and offensive linemen to the NFL Draft the past few years.
Ferentz says adding depth through the portal is a different kind of recruiting.
Iowa closes out spring drills on Saturday with an open practice.
