On May 28th, 2020, the Iowa Shrine Bowl made the very difficult decision to cancel the July 18, 2020 Iowa Shrine Bowl Classic. We know this is disappointing to the coaches, players, cheerleaders and everyone else associated with the Iowa Shrine Bowl and we are incredibly appreciative of the efforts each of you made during this very challenging time.
Our Board held out as long as possible, hoping that we would be able to host this game and related events that are so important to The Shriner’s Hospitals for Children. Knowing how important this event is to the players, cheerleaders, coaches, parents and Shriners – this was a very challenging decision to make and one that we did not want to make. Unfortunately, there are just too many unknowns at this time and we could not jeopardize the safety of any participants, guests or staff at this event.
Each player, cheerleader and coach will be recognized as a 2020 Iowa Shrine Bowl participant. Our plan at this time is to print a commemorative program book for each of you. Additionally, football players will receive a 2020 Iowa Shrine Bowl jersey, t-shirt and pin. Cheerleaders will receive an Iowa Shrine Bowl backpack and pin. Players and cheerleaders will also receive lifetime passes to future Iowa Shrine Bowl games. Each Shrine Temple will be coordinating a time to deliver these items to you later this summer after the program book is published.
We will also be recognizing each of you and your sponsors via our Facebook page. Our mission to support The Shriner’s Hospitals for Children remains the same, despite there not being a game this year. Our hope is this year we will again be able to make a contribution to The Shriner’s Hospitals for Children that will make a difference in the life of a child and, in so doing, honor our 2020 Iowa Shrine Bowl players, cheerleaders, coaches and sponsors.
We share in the disappointment held by so many that we are not able to play this year.
To date, the Iowa Shrine Bowl has raised over $2,600,000 for The Shriner’s Hospitals for Children. Funds for The Shriner’s Hospitals For Children are developed by ticket sales, advertising in the Shrine Bowl program, merchandise sales, contributions and sponsorships.
Iowa Shrine Bowl, Inc is an incorporated 501(c)3 fundraising organization. All profits from operations are sent to The Shriner’s Hospital For Children. The principle fundraising event of Iowa Shrine Bowl, Inc is the Iowa Shrine Bowl Game.
