Iowa State OC Nate Scheelhaase On Quarterback Competition

The race is on at Iowa State where the Cyclones are in search of a new starting quarterback.

Redshirt freshman Rocco Becht, junior college transfer Tanner Hughes and true freshman J.J. Kohl are competing to replace Hunter Dekkers. Offensive coordinator Nate Scheelhaase has been impressed with all three.

Scheelhaase says all three have limited experience in the program.

Scheelhaase says while they are different from a physical standpoint their styles are similar.

On another front Iowa State coach Matt Campbell says there is not a lack of candidates to become Iowa State’s starting running back. Cyclone senior and expected starter Jirehl Brock was charged in connection with the gambling investigation and has not practiced in fall camp.

As he said in the previous cut it could be tailback by committee.

While there is lack of experience at that spot Campbell says there is not a lack of talent.

The Cyclones open at home on September second against Northern Iowa.
