Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says Noah Fant’s lack of production in recent weeks has nothing to do with his attitude.
The Hawkeyes’ All-American tight end has only four receptions in the last two games and has been held without a touchdown in four straight games leaving some to speculate if there is a character issue.
Fant has been sharing time at tight end with T.J. Hockenson.
It also doesn’t help that Iowa’s running game has struggled in recent weeks. The Hawks only managed 64 yards on the ground against Northwestern.
Ferentz still expects the Hawks to regroup and finish strong.
While disappointed with the past few weeks there is still plenty to accomplish.
Illinois coach Lovie Smith says the playoffs are underway as they get set to host Iowa. At 4-6, the Illini need to win their final two games to become bowl eligible.
After struggling in a loss at Nebraska Smith says the defense will need a better effort against the Hawkeyes.
He says the Illini need to load the box to stop the run and squeeze Iowa’s receivers.
Smith says the improving Illinois offense will face a challenge from the Iowa defense.
Kick off is at 2:30 pm at Memorial Stadium.
