Boyden Hull hosted the District 3 upper bracket semifinals Thursday night. In the early game Rock Valley downed Unity 64-47. In the late game it was Boyden Hull over West Lyon 90-53.
The Rockets and Comets will meet Tuesday the 22nd at the Sheldon High school gym to see who advances to Substate and the chance to move on to state.
In the first game of the night Rock Valley led 13-8 at the end of the first quarter and were up 27-21 at the half. At the end of the third the lead was 43-31. In the fourth quarter Unity rallied to trail by 7 but the Rockets recovered to post the win 64-47.
The Rockets had three players in double figures getting a game high 24 from Bryson Van Grootheest. Sam Remmerde added 13 before fouling out with 1:56 to play and Dawson Van Beek pumped in 12. For the Knights James Bouma had a team leading 15. Bo Byl hit for 13.
With the win Rock Valley improves to 17-5 on the year. Unity closes at 14-9.
In the second game of the night the host team Comets opened with a 10-0 run to take a 23-8 first quarter lead and never looked back. At the half it was 42-24 with the lead at 61-41 after three. The offense continued to roll with the Comets getting a 90-53 win over West Lyon.
Tanner Te Slaa had a game high 31 points. He was joined by Vance Katzfey with 21 and Drew Van Roekel knocked down 5 threes for his 15 points. The Wildcats had a trio in double figures as well. Caleb Folkens led the way with 14. Jaxon Meyer added 11 and Darren Meyer hit for 10.
With the win Boyden Hull is 21-1 on the year. West Lyon closes at 10-12. Coming up on Tuesday the 22nd it’s Boyden Hull and Rock Valley for the 2A District 3 title. The game is set for a 7:00 pm opening tip and we’ll bring you the coverage on KIWA AM 1550/FM 100.7.
The District 4 title at Emmetsburg will match Estherville Lincoln Central and Okoboji. The winners of District 3 and 4 meet on Saturday the 26th at the Field House in Spencer for the Substate title and a berth in the upcoming State Tournament.
