Jacks Look To Bounce Back At Western Illinois

Brookings, South Dakota — After suffering its first loss of the 2021 season, the South Dakota State University football team will aim to rebound Saturday as it travels to Western Illinois for a Missouri Valley Football Conference matchup.

Kickoff is set for noon at Hanson Field on the WIU campus in Macomb, Illinois.

South Dakota State enters the matchup with a 4-1 overall record and 1-1 mark in league play after a 42-41 home overtime loss to Southern Illinois on Oct. 9. The Jackrabbits dropped five spots in this week’s polls to No. 7 in the Stats Perform media rankings and eighth in the Football Championship Subdivision coaches’ poll.

Western Illinois holds a 1-5 overall record and is 1-2 in MVFC play. After opening the league slate with a 38-35 win over Youngstown State on Sept. 25, the Leathernecks have dropped back-to-back games to Southern Illinois (31-30, OT) and Indiana State (37-27).
