Jager Roozeboom To Compete At State For A Fourth Time

Sheldon Iowa — Sheldon senior Jager Roozeboom will be participating at the State Cross Country Meet in Fort Dodge for the fourth year in a row come Saturday.

Dates previously set for the 2020 IHSAA and IGHSAU cross country postseason are being split this year to accommodate competition and crowds with COVID-19 related precautions.

The state meet will now be separated by classification and take place over two days. The state meet will remain in Fort Dodge at Lakeside Golf Course, where it has been run as a co-ed event since 1993. Class 2A and 1A will compete on the originally scheduled date of Saturday October 31st. The Class 4A and Class 3A will run their meets one day earlier than initially planned on Friday of this week.

Roozeboom will represent the Orabs for a fourth consecutive year in the Class 2A competition on Saturday. While proud of his accomplishment Jager says he really didn’t expect to make the State Cross Country Meet all four years of High School.

Jager talks about how he trains for Cross Country both during the season and in off season.

Jager says he’s glad he could make State all four years, and credits his success to Orab Head Cross Country Coach Kyle Zankowski.

While he has no firm plans about where he’ll go to college, Roozeboom plans to pursue a career in the construction industry, so post high school he plans to study Engineering, Construction Management, or Business Management in college. Roozeboom will be joined in Fort Dodge by fellow senior Brendan Cain who won the boys individual District Title in his first year of cross country running.
