KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Sophomore Luke Jenness has jumped up to No. 10 in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) 184-pound individual rankings, the national office announced Thursday morning. The Northwestern College wrestling team (4-5, 2-3 GPAC) receives 11 votes in the fifth installment of the national coaches’ poll.
Jenness (So., Primghar, Iowa/Sheldon) sits with a 22-4 record on the season with a team-high seven pins. In last week’s rankings, the sophomore was tabbed at No. 19 in the 184-pound weight class.
The Primghar, Iowa native had a huge weekend at the Missouri Valley Invite down in Marshall, Mo. He grinded to the semifinal round. He would leave Missouri with a third-place finish, defeating the current eleventh-ranked wrestler Niko Perovic of Williams Baptist with an 8-5 decision.
In their last dual, Jenness picked up the lone bout victory with a fall victory over Morningside’s Brody Kacmarynski at the 0:42 second mark.
