Northwestern Freshman Luke Jenness earned Scholar All-American honors Friday afternoon. The announcement was made by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.
To be eligible for the honor, a wrestling must make the National Tournament and a 3.50 cumulative GPA.
Jenness, a biology major, had a standout year as a freshman. The 184 pounder went 26-8 overall while earning 223 match points off of 65 takedowns, 2 2-point near falls, 6 4-point near falls, and 6 reverses. He had 6 falls and 5 major decisions on the year.
He won three tournaments (Yellowjacket Open, Doane Open, and GPAC Championships) en route to his first National Tournament bid. His National Tournament debut did not goes as planned going 0-2 in two close matches.
