Orange City Iowa — MOC Floyd Valley hosted Sheldon in a Siouxland Conference basketball double header Tuesday night. The Dutch won on scores of 61-45 in the girls game and 67-48 in the boys contest.
The Dutch led at all the breaks in the girls’ game. They were up 15-11 at the end of the first quarter and took a 33-25 lead at halftime. At the end of three the lead was 43-32. The Dutch broke it open in the fourth quarter to claim a 61-45 win.
Carlin Smith hit for 14 points followed by Claire Yaw with a 13 point night. Sheldon had three players in double figures led by Claire Johnson who tied for game high honors with 14 points. She was joined by Makenna and Maliah Kleinhesselink who both dropped in 11 points.
Both teams are now even at 1-1 on the year and in the conference.
In the boys game Sheldon led 11-6 at the end of the first quarter. At the half the Dutch had moved in front 26-21. At the end of the third quarter MOC Floyd Valley had built a 45-29 lead before going on to win it 67-48.
The Dutch put four players in double figures getting a game high 13 from Carter Aalbers. Colton Korver and Luke Korver each hit for a dozen with Luke hitting four 3-point buckets. Ayden Klein added 10 points. Sheldon was led by Shane Brouwer with a 12 point night. Both teams were hot from behind the arc combining for 19 3-point baskets in the ballgame.
It was opening night for both boys teams. The Dutch open the year at 1-0 with the Orabs at 0-1.
MOC Floyd Valley returns to action Thursday against Spirit Lake. Sheldon is back in action Friday night hosting Sibley Ocheyedan.
