Sheldon, Iowa – The Northwest Iowa Community College (NCC) Thunder men’s and women’s soccer teams hosted Southeastern Community College on Wednesday, August 27th, in a thrilling doubleheader that featured a women’s victory and a tough loss for the men.
Women’s Soccer: NCC Thunder 3, Southeastern CC 1
The Thunder women took a 3–1 win over Southeastern behind the performance of Yuri Ramirez, who recorded a hat trick. Ramirez wasted no time, scoring two goals in the first six minutes of play. Juliana Zamorano provided an assist on Ramirez’s second goal.
The Thunder controlled much of the first half, applying consistent pressure with multiple shots on goal. After halftime, Southeastern narrowed the gap with a goal in the 77th minute, but Ramirez completed the hat trick in the 86th minute to seal the victory.
Goalkeeper Alexis Hernandez had a light, but steady day in the net, facing just two shots on goal and making one save.
Men’s Soccer: NCC Thunder 2, Southeastern CC 4
The mens’ soccer team fell in an intense match, dropping a 4–2 decision to the Bobcats.
NCC struck first when Warren Traina scored off an assist from Ian Troncoso. Southeastern was reduced to 10 men following a red card, but managed to tie the game before halftime 1–1.
Troncoso gave the Thunder a 2–1 advantage early in the second half, capitalizing on a stolen ball and finishing after his initial breakaway attempt was saved. The Thunder held the lead until the final 10 minutes, when Southeastern scored off a corner kick and added two more late goals to secure the 4–2 decision.
