NCC To Launch New Soccer Programs August 24th

It was Media Day at NCC as the Thunder gets set to launch the men’s and women’s soccer programs on Saturday August 24th at Orab Field hosting Central CC from Columbus. The Women go first at 2:00 pm with the men to follow at 4:00 pm.

The Thunder will compete in the ICCAC (Iowa Community College Athletic Conference) NJCAA Division II. The Men’s team under the direction of Head Coach Jesse Kuehler has players representing 3 states and 12 countries. The Women’s team is led by Head Coach Trey Thomas and features players from 4 states and 2 countries.

KIWA Sports had a chance to sit down with the coaches and Athletic Director Eric Francis on Media Day and women’s coach Trey Thomas talked about what his time has been like since the program was announced in January.

The process has been a little different for men’s coach Men’s coach Jesse Kuehler but just as hectic.

With the first practice on August first a lot has been accomplished in a short time according to Thomas.

Coach Kuehler on the great facilities at the programs disposal both on and off the field.

The infrastructure for the programs were in place long before the teams were put together with the construction of the LLRC a number of years ago and the installation of the turf field. A lot of the dirt work for the field was done by the heavy equipment operator students at NCC.

That’s NCC AD Eric Francis. The soccer program will be responsible for 50 new students attending the College as part of the new programs.

The soccer programs come on the heels of the successful Sport Shooting Team that enters its 6th season this year and was the first sports program at NCC. The Shooting team is under the direction of Head Coach Brian Lauck.
