NCC Welcomes New Men’s Soccer Commit, Diego Alferez

Northwest Iowa Community College (NCC) has announced the addition of Diego Alferez to both its men’s soccer team and the Associate of Arts program.

Hailing from Sioux City, Iowa, Alferez brings a wealth of talent and technical skills to the Thunder roster, as well as a rich backround in soccer. He has played as both a striker, right wing and left wing in high school and has competed in tournaments with the South Sioux City Diablos since he was 5 years old.

“I am beyond excited and ready to start this new chapter in my career and am also ready to work with the guys,” Alferez said.

Alferez plans to complete his general education studies at NCC, and then transfer to a four-year school to further his education. Alferez added he was drawn to NCC by the soccer program and the facilities that NCC has to offer.

“My favorite building at NCC is the LLRC. There is everything I could possibly need there,” he said. “It’s not too big, and not too small. It’s very peaceful.”

Supported by an athletic scholarship, Alferez also noted his transition to NCC is facilitated not only in terms of athletic opportunity, but also financial stability to help provide relief to his family while enabling him to pursue his passion for soccer.

Men’s Head Soccer Coach at NCC Jesse Kuehler, lauded Alferez’s dynamic play and intelligence on the field.

“Diego is a very dynamic and intelligent player. He played in multiple positions all across the field this past season with Sioux City East. His dedication and work rate fits the style of the squad, and he will be a great asset to the program,” Kuehler said.

Diego is the son of Maria and Loera Fernando-Alferez of Sioux City, Iowa.
