Spirit Lake, Iowa — The Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley Nighthawks cruised to a 13-1 win in three innings over George-Little Rock/Central Lyon Wednesday evening in Spirit Lake in a Class 3A Region 2 quarterfinal.
The Nighthawks got off to a hot start when lead-off batter Taylor Richter went yard over the wall in left-center to give BHRV a quick 1-0 lead. Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley added another three runs in the inning and had an early 4-0 advantage. The Nighthawks added another 3 runs in the second inning, and six more in the third.
The Mustangs got their lone run in the bottom of the third when Kayla Gerken was driven in by Kiely Metzgar. The final, though, would be 13-1 after three innings of play.
Lizzy Blum for the the Nighthawks got the win. Giving up 1 earned run on two hits and three walks. Blum struck out one.
Madilyn Matuska took the loss. Giving up 9 earned on nine hits, and three walks.
BHRV improves to 22-8 on the year and will play Spirit Lake in the Class 3A Region 2 semifinal on Friday night in Spirit Lake at 7 pm.
The Mustangs end their year at 9-13.
