Fort Dodge, Iowa — The Nighthawk Softball team’s season came to an end with an 8th place finish at the State Tournament after falling to West Marshall 3-1 Wednesday afternoon.
The Nighthawks were the first to break the deadlock in the 3rd inning. Cassie Van Beek doubled to drive in a run to break the no score tie. Heading into the 4th it was BHRV leading 1-0.
The Trojans finally got on the board in the top of the 4th. Kayla Cripps singled to right to drive in a run, and tie things up at 1-1. West Marshall took the lead in the top of the 5th. Katie Price doubled to center to drive in a run, and Karisa Blocker hit into a fielders choice, but drove in another run to make it 3-1. West Marshall was able to hold off BHRV and come away with the 3-1 victory.
Kallie Malloy got the win for the Trojans. Malloy went 6 innings, giving up just 1 earned on 4 hits and two walks, while striking out 6.
Van Der Zwaag took the loss. She went 6 innings. She gave up 3 earned runs on 6 hits and 3 walks. Van Der Zwaag also struck out 7.
With the loss Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley ends their year at 32-5 and a 8th place State Tournament finish. West Marshall’s season comes to an end at 34-8.
