Nighthawks Grind Out A Victory Over Spencer

The Nighthawks came away victorious after a hard fought 22-7 win in Spencer Friday night in a district battle on the road.

The game started out with both teams trading scores. First the Tigers drove 73 yards in 4:57, capping off the drive was a 21 yard quarterback run out of the option for Jackson De Witt.  It was 7-0 Tigers with 7:03 to play in the first quarter.  The Nighthawks would answer on the next drive with a 4 play touchdown drive of their own. Caleb Kats found Cole Huyser on a 42 yard touchdown pass. With 5:31 to go in the first the score was tied at 7.

Shortly before half the Nighthawks missed a 27 yard field goal after forcing a Jon Nissen fumble for the Tigers in Tiger territory. On the first drive of the 3rd quarter Kody Noble carried the Nighthawk offense on a 5 minute, 75 yard drive. Finishing off that drive was a 17 yard touchdown pass from Caleb Kats to Bryson Van Grootheest.  The Nighthawks clung to a 14-7 lead with 6:51 to go in the 3rd quarter.  The Nighthawks would add an insurance score in the 4th quarter with a Kody Noble 10 yard touchdown run at the 3:10 mark.

Boyden Hull Rock Valley would seal the game with an interception in the end zone of the Tigers and come away with the 22-7 victory. The Nighthawks improve to 4-2 overall (3-1 in the district). The Tigers fall to 4-2 overall (3-1 in the district).  The Nighthawks now have an important head to head win in the district and host Storm Lake next week in Hull.
