Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley defeated Bishop Heelan 24-16 at Memorial Field in Sioux City Wednesday night.
The Nighthawks would force a Heelan turnover on downs and would start their first drive of the game at the Crusader 33 yard line. Kyle Van Ginkel would haul in the 7 yard reception for the TD, making it 6-0 Nighthawks with 7:02 left in the 1st. The Nighthawks would again capitalize on a Crusader turnover when Dalton Moser Intercepted a Mekhi Biachini pass. The very next play Shane Solberg would be on the receiving end of a 31 yard touchdown reception from Brett Moser. Late in the 1st it was 12-0 BHRV.
Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley would find the endzone one more time in the first half. With 3:25 left in the half, Brett Moser would throw his 3rd TD pass of the night, this time to Myles Van Maanen from 10 yards out. That touchdown was set up by a Shane Solberg 51 yard catch and run. Late in the first half it was 18-0 Nighthawks. Heelan would return the ensuing kickoff to the BHRV 30, but would only come away with a Jason Sloniker 20 yard field goal. At halftime it was 18-3 Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley.
Heelan would be the first to get points in the 2nd half. After blocking a Nighthawk punt, the Crusaders would settle for another field goal deep in BHRV territory. Sloniker would hit another one from 38 yards. Midway through the 3rd was 18-6 Nighthawks. Myles Van Maanen would find the endzone on the ground from 3 yards out late in the 3rd quarter. Kyle Van Ginkel was key in the drive, converting a 4th and 6 with a 14 yard reception. With just over a minute left in the 3rd, it was 24-6 BHRV. Heelan would respond on the very next drive. Mekhi Biachini would find Jackson Boever for the 62 yard touchdown pass. Heading into the 4th quarter, it was 24-13.
Heelan and Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley would trade possessions throughout the 4th quarter, and the Crusaders would put up their 3rd field goal of the night with 3:18 to play, and push the score to 24-16. Bishop Heelan would again have the ball late in the 4th, but Biachini would be picked off by Myles Van Maanen. Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley would run out the clock and come away victorious 24-16.
Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley improves to 8-2 overall and will play Monday night in the 2nd round of the playoffs.
Bishop Heelan ends their season at 8-2.
