Sergeant Bluff, Iowa — For the first time in 10 years, the Nighthawks have beaten Sergeant Bluff-Luton 35-10 Friday night.
The game started off with a Nighthawk three and out. On the following punt, Scott Krull fumbled the punt return giving the Nighthawks the ball back at the 38 yard line. Boyden Hull Rock Valley took advantage and scored three plays later on a 22 yard touchdown pass to Landyn Van Kekerix. The Nighthawks would add another touchdown on the next possession after driving 83 yards and scoring on a 11 yard Van Kekerix touchdown run, the score after the first quarter of play was 14-0.
The Warriors put points on the board with a 26 yard field goal by Scout Sneller. The Nighthawks would answer with 14 more second quarter points. The first of the two scores was a 44 yard touchdown pass again from Tanner Te Slaa to Landyn Van Kekerix. The second score would come on another 44 yard touchdown pass, this time to Caleb Kats. The score at the half was 28-3.
The second half started with an injury to Tyler Smith the starting quarterback for the Warriors. Second string QB Ryan Hoffman led the Warriors with Jason Dickson featured as the workhorse running back scoring on a 5 minute drive on an 8 yard pass from Hoffman to Nick Hinkel. 28-10 was the score at the 7:07 mark of the 3rd quarter. Boyden Hull Rock Valley would answer with the final touchdown of the game on the following drive. It took the Nighthawks 8 plays for 66 yards and the score. The final score would end 35-10 in favor of the Nighthawks.
Next week the Nighthawks (7-0, 3-0 in district play) host MOC-Floyd Valley. Sergeant Bluff Luton travels to Heelan and falls to 5-2 overall, and 2-1 in district play.
