A Great Plains Athletic Conference showdown in Orange City on Saturday will feature two of the top ranked teams in NAIA when top ranked Northwestern hosts third ranked Morningside.
The winner will be on the door step of the league title. Northwestern coach Matt McCarty says there is always a lot on the line when these two rivals meet.
Morningside has been using two quarterbacks in Cash Parker and Lennx Brown. McCarty says the Mustangs are relying more on the run game this season.
In recent history this series usually features numerous momentum shifts and there is rarely an early knockout.
Both teams are 8-0 and Morningside coach Steve Ryan says the players always know this game is looming.
Ryan says they enter each game with a plan on how to use both quarterbacks in the opening half then go with the hot hand in the second half.
Ryan says to have a chance the Mustangs must win the turnover battle.
Ryan says he is hearing quite a bit about the chance for bad weather. Saturday’s forecast in Orange City calls for a high of 30 and one to three inches of snow.
