NWC 4th, Dordt 9th At Blue River Classic

The Northwestern men’s golf team finished 4th, and the Dordt men’s golf team finished 9th out of 19 teams at the Blue River Classic Wednesday. The second day of the event was held at Wilderness Ridge in Lincoln, NE.

Austin Reitz posted his second consecutive top five finish in leading the Red Raiders at the Blue River Classic. Reitz fired a one-under 70 in today’s final round, tied for the second lowest round among all golfers on Wednesday, to finish tied for fifth with a 36-hole total of 148. The senior has now finished in the top five in three events this season and in the top 10 in five meets.

Northwestern carded a final round 299 for a two-day score of 607 and a fourth place finish among the 19 teams competing. Eastern Wyoming Community College shot a 596 (298 / 298) to win the meet by three strokes over Midland. Doane finished third, followed by the Red Raiders and Ottawa (Kan.).

Three Red Raiders finished in the top 15; Reitz, Caleb Badura and Isaac Knock. Both Badura and Knock tied for 14th with a 151; Badura closed with a 75 today, Knock with a 77.

Jake Olsen was the Red Raiders fourth golfer, finishing T33rd with a 157 after a final round 77. Tyler Merley was just one stroke back (158) and also closed with a 77, good for 37th place.

Coach Aberson had three golfers play as individuals; Ryan Vaden and Alex Snyder tied for 43rd with a 160; Nick Bomgaars tied for 66th with a 168.

Dordt jumped up three places from 12th to 9th on the second day of the event. On Tuesday, they shot a combined score of 333 and improved to 306 on Wednesday. Despite the major improvement, they were still 12 strokes behind eighth place Dakota Wesleyan.

Kyle Colyn finished in a tie for 14th with a two day score of 151, while Ryan Feauto finishe tied for 19th with a 152. Brandon VandeGriend ended the tournament in 65th, Ryan Fedders carded a 169 to finish tied for 69th, and Dustin Widman carded a 182 and ended at 100th.

Eastern Wyoming tied its first day score of 298 on day two. They defeated Midland University by three strokes to win the tournament.

Gonzalo Arecelay (Eastern Wyoming) took home the medal with a two day score of 143. He beat out Midland’s Peyton Koch by one stroke.
