NWC Women’s Basketball At College of Saint Mary This Weekend

Omaha, Nebraska — The Northwestern College women’s basketball team looks to continue its winning ways as they travel to Omaha, Neb. to play College of Saint Mary (Neb.) for their final road game of the regular season. Tip-off at the Lied Fitness Center is set for 2pm

Northwestern has won 10 consecutive games and sits in third place in the Great Plains Athletic Conference standings with a 15-5 record, 15-8 overall. The Flames are 1-18 in league play, 2-20 overall and have lost seven straight.

Last Time vs College of Saint Mary…Devyn Kemble scored a game-high 24 points in leading Northwestern to a 109-46 home win against the Flames on Jan. 9. The Raiders had their highest scoring output since the 2014-15 season.

Northwestern scored the first 18 points of the game and led 30-8 after one quarter and 61-15 at the half. The Raiders dominated the stats sheet, shooting 54% compared to 35% by CSM. They also held a 40-26 advantage on the boards and forced 29 turnovers. Maddie Jones scored 12 points and both Sammy Blum and Hannah Nerem added 10 points each.

Honnah Leo led the Flames with 11 points.

The Flames have lost seven straight games heading into the weekend and sits in 12th place in the current GPAC standings. They are 1-18 in the conference, the lone win coming against Doane on Jan. 20. CSM is 2-20 overall and has losses to Dordt and Morningside in their most recent games.

Walker is in his third season as the head of the Flames program and returns two starters, five players from a 2019-20 squad that finished 11th in the GPAC with a 2-20 record, 5-25 overall. They were picked 11th in the GPAC preseason poll.

Northwestern has won 10 straight games since dropping back-to-back contests against the teams ahead of them in the standings, Morningside and Concordia, in late December and early January. They have climbed up to third in the GPAC standings with a 15-5 record, needing one win to ensure no worse than a third place finish in the conference. Northwestern is 15-8 overall and trails second place Concordia by 1/2 game.
