The Northwestern College women’s basketball team looks to extend its win streak to three as they make the trip to Mitchell, S.D. for a road game against Dakota Wesleyan in GPAC play. Tip-off at the Corn Palace is set for 6pm.
Northwestern is tied for seventh in the current GPAC standings with a 2-3 record, 2-6 overall; DWU is 1-1 in the GPAC, 3-1 overall.
Wednesday night’s match-up will be the 63rd all-time in the rivalry between Northwestern and DWU with the Raiders holding a 40-22 edge in the series. The teams have split their games in the regular season in each of the last three years; both teams picked up road wins last year; Northwestern defeated DWU 63-58 in Mitchell, S.D., the Tigers came back with an 82-56 win over NWC at the Bultman Center.
The Tigers are off to a 3-1 start to the 2020-21 season, having a few of their early games postponed due to covid. They own wins over Dickinson State and Presentation in non-conference play and then split their two games in the GPAC, losing to Briar Cliff and coming back with a 77-59 home win over Doane last time out.
Christensen is in his 11th season and has guided the Tigers to six 20+ win seasons during his time as head coach. Last year, he led DWU to a fifth place finish in the GPAC with a 13-9 record, 21-11 overall. They defeated Indiana Wesleyan in the first round of the NAIA D-II Championship prior to it being canceled.
