FOREST CITY, Iowa – The (RV) Northwestern College wrestling team (8-5, 5-3 GPAC) concluded the dual portion of their 2021-22 season with a dominate 43-6 victory over the Warriors of Waldorf University (1-5), winning their fourth consecutive dual.
“Big night for the Raiders! The guys showed up and competed hard,” said head coach Rik Dahl. “We did a great job of setting the tempo, staying in matches and taking advantage of position. I’m proud of the way our guys competed! Even when we lost, we battled hard.”
Waldorf opened with a tight 7-3 decision to start the night at 125 and another decision at 165, but that was all the success they would see in the night as Northwestern pinned five Warriors in the dominant performance.
Manny Jaramillo (Jr., Selma, Calif./Selma) put the Raiders on the board with six points in a forfeit win, starting a four bout win streak for Northwestern. At 141, Trey Schuck (Fr., Sibley, Iowa/Sibley-Ocheyedan) bullied his opponent Tyler Okada to a major decision as Northwestern went up 10-3, and the Raiders never looked back.
Back-to-back falls for John Seth (Fr., Arlington, Wash./Burlington-Edison) and Breckin Sperling (Fr., Lincoln, Neb./East) at 149 and 157, respectively, put Northwestern in complete control at 22-3. The pin and victory marked both marked firsts for the freshman Seth, while Sperling picked up his fourth fall victory of the season.
After the 165 bout, the Raiders would respond with another set of back-to-back fall victories. Jakob Francksen-Small (Fr., Merrill, Iowa/Le Mars Community) grabbed his sixth fall and 16th win of the season, followed by Tyler Zeimen (Jr., Cherokee, Iowa/Washington) improves to 7-10 on the season with his third pin.
Jose Sanchez (Fr., San Diego, Calif.) snuck out a hard fought 7-3 decision, improving his record to 3-5. Lincoln Siebert (Fr., Burns, Wyo./Burns) also improved to 7-10 this season with a fall victory of his own, the fifth of the night for Northwestern, as the Raiders would take the dual 46-3.
