SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) announced their weekly track & field honors as Northwestern’s James Gilbert Jr. earned men’s field athlete of the week honors after recording the third-best jump in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
Competing at the Dordt Indoor Open this past weekend, Gilbert (Jr., Orlando, Fla./Edgewater) recorded a jump of 7.26 (23-10.00) in the long jump, topping teammate Lorenzo Jones who had a leap of 6.65m.
On the track, the junior competed in the 55m hurdles where he took second place with a time of 6.65 seconds.
The Orlando, Fla. native also competed as the first leg in the Raiders’ 4×400 meter relay team that picked up first-place by nearly a second over Dordt’s relay team. The relay team notched a time of 3:27.51 to take home the win.
Gilbert joins fellow Raider Kennedy Kramer as track and field athlete of the week for the Raiders. This is the first track and field weekly honors for Northwestern on the season.
The Raiders will be back in action this Friday, January 21 at the South Dakota State (SDSU) DII Invite in Brookings, S.D. with events beginning at 1:30 p.m.
