NWC’s Softball Season Comes To An End With Losses

The Red Raiders softball season comes to an end with consecutive losses on the first day of the GPAC Softball Tournament – Midland Bracket played today at Christensen Field in Fremont, Neb. Northwestern lost to the University of Jamestown 11-0 (5 innings) in the first game and then fell short 11-2 (6 innings) against Midland in an elimination game.

Northwestern finished the season with an 18-25 overall record.

The Red Raiders accounted for five hits, four singles and a double, in their 11-0 loss in game one. Madison Beaver tallied the lone extra-base hit, a one-out double in the third inning; Jordyn Kramer, Amber Schubert, Devin Dreesen and Emily Strasser all had singles for Head Coach Shane Bouman’s squad.

Emma Schnell (11-15) gave up five hits, six runs (1 earned) and struck out two in 1.1 innings. Samantha Ubben pitched the final 3.2 innings, yielding nine hits and five runs.

Jamestown plated a run in the top of the first when Sydney Prussia drove in Mikayla Frost from second. The Jimmies blew the game open with six runs in the second, sending 10 players up to bat with four hits and taking advantage of three NWC errors. Allie McCain hit a two-run single and Katie Reisdorfer belted a two-run double.

The Jimmies added another run in the third and ended the game with a three-run fifth inning. Frost and McCain had three hits each and Meghan Rampage went 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

Katie Merchant (13-8) earned the win, striking out two in five innings.
