Orab Softball Team Posts Win At Boyden Wednesday

Boyden, Iowa — The Sheldon softball team broke open a close game with a 10 run 6th inning as they downed Boyden Hull Rock Valley 12-1 at Boyden Wednesday night.

The Orabs held a 2-1 lead going into the inning. Sheldon scored first with a run in the second inning.  Maliah Kleinhesselink singled to left and later scored on an errant throw into center field on a steal attempt.

The Nighthawks countered with a run in the bottom of the second as Gabi Luevano was hit by a pitch and later scored on a single up the middle by Keilani Maae to tie the score at 1-1.

Sheldon took the lead in the 5th as Tori Elgersma reached on a bunt and later scored from second on a drive to right field by Payton Lode.

The Orabs erupted for a 10 run inning in the top of the 6th as Makkena Kleinhesselink and Reese Strouth both reached and scored twice in the inning. Emma Barwick, Payton Lode, Maliah Kleinhesselink  and Claire Johnson each drove in a run to make the final 12-1.

Kourtney Dekker got the win going 6 innings. She walked 1 and struck out 6. Jewel Bergstrom took the loss giving up 8 runs on 12 hits. She struck out 3 and walked 2 in 5 and a third innings.

With  the win Sheldon is 12-1 on the year and 7-1 in the conference. The Nighthawks are 6-8 for the year and 4-4 in the Siouxland. Wednesdays game was a make up from early in the season. The two teams are back in action Thursday night squaring off in Sheldon.
