Sheldon Iowa — It was opening night for softball in Iowa Monday night and the Sheldon Orabs opened the season with a 3-1 home win over George Little Rock Central Lyon.
The Mustangs got on the board first in the top of the third inning as Samantha Hellinga walked and later scored from third on an Orab fielding error to put G-LR-CL up 1-0.
Sheldon tied it with a run in the bottom of the third as Samantha Noteboom singled through the middle of the infield and later scored on a fielders choice off the bat of Clair Johnson.
The Orabs scored a pair of runs in the fourth as Emma Barwick reached on an error and scored from third on a sac fly to center by Madison Van Meeteren. Kourtney Dekker doubled to center field and the games final run scored on a sac fly to left by Maliah Kleinhesselink. Tori Elgersma running for Dekker came in from third. With no further scoring 3-1 would be the final score.
Sheldon freshman Kourtney Dekker went 7 innings to get the win. Dekker gave up 4 hits and struck out 13 while walking 4. Sophomore Emersyn Netten took the loss. She gave up 4 hits and walked just 1 batter.
Sheldon returns to action Tuesday night at home against Boyden Hull Rock Valley. The Mustangs are back in action Wednesday night against Sibley Ocheyedan with the game played at Ocheyedan.
