Sheldon and Sibley Ocheyedan split a Siouxland Conference basketball doubleheader in Sibley Friday night. The Generals took the girls opener 46-40. Sheldon won the boys game 57-34.
Sibley Ocheyedan the 8th ranked team in Class 2A led at all the breaks taking a 16-9 first quarter lead and were up 27-14 at the half. The Orabs trimmed the lead to 10 at the end of the third quarter 38-28 but the Generals were able to grind out the win by six, 46-40.
Sibley Ocheyedan had three players in double figures led by Marissa Ackerman with a game high 14 points. She was joined by Bria Wasmund and Madison Brouwer with 13 each. Sheldon was led by Makenna Kleinhesselink with 12 points. Complimentary scoring came in the form of 9 points each from Claire Johnson and Maliah Kleinhesselink. Payton Lode added 8 points.
With the win Sibley Ocheyedan is off to a 3-0 conference start and 3-1 on the season, Sheldon is 0-3 in a trio of conference games.
In the boys contest Sheldon led from start to finish in a 57-34 win. The first half was back and forth with the Orabs up 12-10 at the end of the first quarter. A 7-0 run to close the half put the Orabs up 25-16 and was a springboard for a 57-34 win as Sheldon pushed the lead to 43-25 at the end of the third quarter.
Sheldon put three players in double figures getting a game high 23 from Shane Brouwer who had been held to 4 points at the half. Max Hamill hit for 15 with Blake Radke adding a dozen coming on four 3’s in the contest. The Generals were led by Logan Bruxvoort who had a 12 point night.
With the win Sheldon is 1-1 on the year and in the conference. Sibley Ocheyedan opens at 0-2.
