Orabs Close Regular Season With A Win at Orange City

Orange City Iowa — A Kaleb Ackerman interception in the end zone with :26 seconds left preserved a 21-14 Orab win over MOC Floyd Valley as Sheldon and the Dutch wraped up the regular season.

Sheldon scored first on a 74 yard drive capped by 44 yard touchdown pass from Ackerman to Tye Sudbeck. The 2-point try was no good and Sheldon led 6-0 with 7:33 left in the first quarter.

Sheldon pushed the lead to 14-0 on an Ackerman pick six from the MOC Floyd Valley 12 yard line. Tyrel Lindeman ran for the 2-point conversion and the Orab lead was 14-0 with :15 seconds left in the first quarter.

MOC Floyd Valley went on a 65 yard drive. A 6 yard touchdown pass from Carson Jager to Colton Korver was set up by a 39 yard connection between the two that set the Dutch up at the Sheldon 16  yard line. Kollin Federes hit the extra point to cut the Orab lead to 14-7 with 8:34 left in the half.

A 33 yard pick six by Casson Johannes put the Orabs up 20-7. Brian Bernal added the extra point. and the lead was 21-7 with 4:23 left in the third.

MOC Floyd Valley pulled to within a score after a 93 yard drive in the fourth quarter. Carter Aalbers in at quarterback scored on an 11 yard run. Jesus Ramirez in for an injured Kollin Federes added the extra point to make it 21-14.

Ramirez executed a perfect onside kick and the Dutch had possession at the Sheldon 35 with 1:09 left to play. Ackerman’s interception in the end zone with :26 seconds left would seal the win for Orabs.

The Orabs wrap up the regular season at 2-5 on the year and 1-4 in the district. MOC Floyd Valley will take an 0-7 record into the playoffs that begin next Friday for both teams.
