Orabs Down Wolverines in Sheldon

Sheldon Iowa — The Sheldon Orabs used a big play offense and timely defense to earn a 27-14 win Friday night at Orab Field. A trio of offensive records fell as Sheldon put together 455 yards of total offense. Quarterback Brennan Radke threw for a school record 348 yards on 22-of-33 passing and Tyler Lode set school records for receptions in a game with 11 for a school record 223 yards. With the win Sheldon improves to 2-0 on the year and South O’Brien moves to 1-1 with two more non district games to go.

South O’Brien got on the board first with a 68 yard drive. Quarterback Jackson Louscher finished the drive  with a 1 yard run. Yannick Lorf added the extra point and the Wolverines had the lead 7-0.

Sheldon answered with an 80 yard drive that started in the the first quarter and ended early in the second when Brennan Radke  found Tyler Lode up the left sideline for 59 yards and the score. Brian Bernal added the extra point and the game was tied at 7-7 with 11:03 left in the first half.

The Wolverines responded with a 64 yard drive. Louscher went in for a second score this time from  2 yards out. Yannick Lorf added the extra point and South O’Brien led 14-7 with 3:09 left in the half.

Sheldon tied the game with :11 seconds left in the half as they capped a 68 yard drive. The play started with a jet sweep by Brendan Cain who flipped the ball to Tyler Lode. Lode then tossed a pass to Radke for a 4 yard score.  Bernal’s extra point squared the score for a second time at 14-14.

Sheldon took the lead with 9:08 left in the third quarter. Radke and Lode hooked up for a 77 yard score. Bernal added the point to put Sheldon up 21-14.

The Orabs added another score with a 70 yard drive that ended with Lode scoring from 7 yards out on a jet sweep. The kick was blocked and Sheldon led 27-14 with 7:18 left to play and that would be the final score.

With the win the Orab are off to a 2-0 start while South O’Brien is even at 1-1. Next Friday non district play continues with Sheldon at LeMars and South O’Brien hosting Alta Aurelia.
