Sheldon Iowa — Estherville Lincoln Central opened the season with a 39-6 win at Orab Field in Sheldon as the 2020 football season got underway.
E-LC scored the first time they had the ball. On their first play from scrimmage Ryan Schiltz had a pass deflected by wide receiver Matt Christensen go right into the arms of Kevin Egeland for a 42 yard score. Brandon Flores added the extra point and the Midgets were up 7-0 with 9:50 left in the first quarter.
On their next possession Schiltz went around the right side for a 15 yard touchdown run. Flores added the point and it was E-LC 14-0 with 6:48 left in the first quarter.
On their third possession Schiltz fired a 21 yard strike to Matt Christensen. Flores added the point after and it was 21-0 with 4:38 left in the first quarter.
Sheldon got on the board when the defense forced a fumble at their own 10 yard line. It ended in a 90 yard scoring drive with Kaleb Ackerman hitting Ethan Reekers for a 6 yard score. The extra point was no good and the lead was cut to 21-6 with 6:34 left in the half and that would be the score at intermission.
E-LC got on the board in the third quarter with a 48 yard drive. Schiltz found Egeland for a 19 yard score. The extra point failed and it was 27-6 Midgets with 4:06 left in the third.
The Orabs fumbled the ensuing kick off and the Midgets were in the end zone a minute later as Schiltz hit Lamont Whiting for a 36 yard score. The extra point was no good and the lead was up to 33-6.
The Midgets finished the scoring with a 68 yard drive capped by a 1 yard run by Zavion McMurrian with 2:41 left to play. The kick was no good and 39-6 would be the final score.
It was the season opener for both teams. The Orabs travel to South O’Brien next Friday while Estherville Lincoln Central will host MOC Floyd Valley.
