Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Orab softball team couldn’t get the bats going against Okoboji at the Sheldon Sports Complex Friday night. The Pioneers took the conference victory 3-0.

Defense highlighted the contest with neither team able to get bats going until Okoboji’s Grace Eckard doubled, and later came in to score from third on a wild pitch to make it 1-0 in the top of the 5th. To start the sixth, Elli Hanson for the Pioneers would single, and later come in to score off of a Shayla Baschke single to push the score to 2-0. Okoboji added another insurance run in the 7th to make it 3-0, and later came away with the 3-0 win holding Sheldon scoreless in the bottom of the 7th.
Nicole Johnson took the loss for the Orabs going the full seven, giving up 3 earned runs on 5 hits, 2 walks, and struck out 5.
Shania Christopherson got the win for the Pioneers. She threw the complete game shutout. Christopherson’s perfect game was broken up in the bottom of the 7th by a Johnson single to lead off the inning.
Sheldon falls to 5-11 on the year, and 4-6 in the Siouxland. Okoboji improves to 2-17 on the season, and 1-9 in the Conference.
Up next for Orab Softball and Okoboji is the Okoboji Tournament Saturday.
