Orabs Set To Run At State Cross Country Saturday October 31st

Sheldon Iowa — A pair of Orabs will represent Sheldon at the boys 2A state cross country meet on Saturday. The two are seniors Brendan Cain and Jager Rozeboom who took two very different paths to get to the state level.

Cain is a first year runner who came to cross country from the football program. Cain has had some distance running experience from spring track seasons but it was an unusual set of circumstances due to the COVID pandemic that brought him to the cross country program this year.

That’s Orab Head Cross Country and Track Coach Kyle Zankowski. Training was a customized fit for Cain. Zankowski explains.

To give the story some perspective we asked how difficult is is to come out for one year as a senior and become a district champion the way Brendan has.

Cain has been rated as the number two individual runner in the state for Class 2A boys. From the other end of the spectrum Jager Rozeboom who is going to the state cross country meet for a fourth consecutive year has taken a more traditional path.

From the coaches point of view it’s been a very satisfying season for a number of reasons.

Even the weather appears to be setting up for a favorable state meet in Fort Dodge.

Class 3A and 4A boys and girls competition is set for Friday with Class 1A and 2A set for Saturday. Saturday’s schedule opens with 2A girls at 10:30 followed by the boys at 11:00. Class 1A girls begins at 3:30 in the afternoon followed by the boys at 4:00.
