Sheldon Iowa — Sheldon split a non-conference basketball doubleheader with Spencer Tuesday night at Orab Gym. Spencer took the girls game 48-40 while Sheldon won the boys contest 65-41.
In the girls contest the Tigers opened a 12-7 first quarter lead and pushed that to a 32-14 advantage at half time. The Tigers led 42-27 after three quarter before the Orabs mounted the comeback outscoring Spencer 13-6 in the fourth quarter. The Tigers held on for the 48-40 win.
Spencer was led by Keeley Petzenhauser’s game high 22 points. Katie Moser and Alexandra Warren had 8 points each. Sheldon was led by Hannah Van Meeteren with 10 points. Taylor Weber was next with 9 points while Brooklyn Grady added 8 points.
With the win Spencer is 4-7 on the year while Sheldon stands at 2-10.
In the boys game Spencer led 15-11 after the first quarter. Sheldon outscored the Tigers 21-9 in the second quarter and took a 32-24 lead into halftime. The Orab lead was up to 52-31 at the end of three with Sheldon winning 65-41.
Tyler Johnson knocked down 7 threes to score a game high 21 points. He was joined in double figures by Jaden Kleinhesslink and Kyle Boerhave who hit for 12 points each. Brady Kluender was the lone Tiger in double figures with a 20 point night.
With the win Sheldon picks up their 10th win of the season against just 1 loss. The Orabs are also on a 9 game winning streak. Spencer falls to 6-5 on the year. Weather permitting Sheldon will be at Hartley Thursday for their final non-conference game of the regular season against HMS. The Tigers welcome Algona to the field house in Spencer for a non-conference game on Thursday as well.
