Orabs Sweep Mustangs to Head Into Holiday Break

Sheldon Orabs 1George Iowa — The Sheldon Orabs swept a Siouxland Conference basketball doubleheader at George Little Rock Tuesday night. Sheldon took the girls game 57-37 and followed that with a 70-39 win in the boys contest.

In the girls game a three by Mariah Leemkuil as time expired tied the score at 10-10 at the end of the first quarter. Sheldon led 29-19 at halftime and pushed that to a 39-28 lead after three quarters as they picked up the win 57-37. Sheldon had two players in double figures. Bryn Groff and Taylor Weber shared game high honors with 10 points each. The Mustangs were led by Emily Hansmann with a 9 point effort.

With the win Sheldon goes into the holiday break at 2-7 on the year and 1-6 in the conference. George Little Rock is 1-8 for the year and 1-6 in the conference as well.

 

In the boys game Sheldon hit 7 three point buckets in the first half as they rolled to a 41-22 lead at intermission. They would finish the night with nine. After  three quarters the lead was 50-33 with the Orabs getting the win 70-39.

Sheldon put four of the five starters in double figures led by Ryan Van Marel with 16. Tyler Merley led the 3-point barrage with 15 points all from beyond the arc. Jaden Kleinhesslink hit for 14 points with Kyle Boerhave hitting for 13. The Mustangs had two players in double figures led by Josh Haken with 15. Lucas Nagel was next with 13 points.

With the win Sheldon is off to a 7-1 start on the year and 5-1 in the conference. The Mustangs are now even at 4-4 on the season and 3-3 in the Siouxland. Sheldon is off until Tuesday January 3rd when they travel to Central Lyon. George Little Rock is off until the 3rd as well. The Mustangs resume the season at home against Okoboji.
