Okoboji Iowa — Sheldon swept a conference basketball doubleheader at Okoboji Friday night. The girls started with a 55-43 win and the boys followed with a 59-50 decision over the Pioneers.
In the girls game Sheldon led 8-5 after the first quarter. At halftime it was all even at 24-24. Sheldon took a 34-30 third quarter lead and went on to win it 55-43 going 5 of 5 at the free throw line to seal the win.
Sheldon got a game high 20 points from Claire Johnson and 13 from Brooklyn Grady. Okoboji was led by Montana Wilson with a 12 point night and Sayla Baschke who hit for 11.
With the win Sheldon is 3-9 for the year and 3-7 in the conference. Okoboji is 2-10 for the season and 0-10 in the Siouxland.
Sheldon led at all the breaks in a hotly contested boys game. The Orabs were up 11-8 at the end of the first quarter and carried a 27-24 lead into halftime. At the end of three the lead was 37-32. Great free throw shooting in the fourth quarter was the key to the win as Sheldon went 14 of 15 in the fourth quarter.
Tye Sudbeck had a game high 18 points. Shane Brouwer dropped in 10 points in the first half on route to a 16 point night. They were joined by Kaleb Ackerman who pumped in 14 on the night. The Pioneers were led by Will Jensen with 14 points followed by Will Hoffman and Austin Harms who hit for 9 points each.
With the win Sheldon is 3-8 for the year and 2-7 in the Siouxland. The Pioneers are 6-5 for the season and 4-5 in the conference. Sheldon returns to action Monday hosting HMS. Okoboji returns to action on Friday the 15th with a double header at Rock Valley.
