Spirit Lake — The Sheldon Orabs got the sweep over Spirit Lake Thursday night in Spirit Lake. The Orab girls held on for the 52-43 win, and the Sheldon boys won 50-43.
It was a back and forth affair early on in the girls game, with the score 9-9 after the first eight minutes. Sheldon pulled ahead in the second quarter with a 27-22 lead heading into the half. The Orabs would hold onto the lead in the third 37-34, and hold on for the win with some key free throws late and come away with the 52-48 win.
Sheldon had three players in double figures. Makenna Kleinhesselink and Payten Lode each had 15 points and Emma Barwick added 10. Spirit Lake got a game high 18 points from Molly Van Dyke.
With the win, Sheldon improves to 3-3 on the year and Spirit Lake falls to 2-4 on the season.
The boys game was also a battle early. Sheldon had a six point lead late in the first quarter, but Spirit Lake closed the gap. Sheldon led 15-14 after 1. The battle continued in the second, with Spirit Lake leading at intermission 24-23. In the 3rd quarter, Sheldon held Spirit Lake to 8 points and jumped in front 40-31 after three and went on to win 50-43.
Sheldon got a game high 20 points from Shane Brouwer, with 15 coming in the second half. Spirit Lake got a team high 17 from Caden Hassel.
With the win, Sheldon improves to 3-2 on the season, Spirit Lake falls to 1-3.
